สมาคมฝรั่งเศสกรุงเทพ ขอเชิญชมละครเรื่อง “ฉันชื่อโอเตอโร” สร้างสรรค์จากบทละครของฌ็องน์-ปอล โดมาส จัดแสดงโดยคณะ Troupe des Deux Mondesไม่มีอะไรเหมือนนิยายเท่ากับชีวิตของกาโรลีนา โอเตอโรอีกแล้ว ตั้งแต่อายุ 14 ปี ผู้หญิงคนนี้เริ่มแสดงในคาบาเร่ต์ ที่เมืองบาร์เซโลนา ต่อมาก็ที่กรุงปารีส ซึ่งที่กรุงปารีสนี่เอง ที่โอเตอโรได้กลายเป็นนักแสดงชื่อดังที่ใครๆ ก็พากันยกย่อง ที่นี่ โอเตอโร ได้ไปสถานที่หรูหรา และร่วมหลับนอนกับนายธนาคาร และซาร์ ผู้ซึ่งโอเตโรทั้งแผดเผาหัวใจและผลาญทรัพย์สินไปจำนวนมาก
ในวัย 46 ปี ขณะที่กำลังรุ่งเรืองและมีทรัพย์สินมากระดับมหาเศรษฐี โอเตอโรคนงามก็อำลาวงการและย้ายไปตั้งถิ่นฐานที่เมืองนีซ โอเตอโรเล่นการพนันแบบไม่ยั้งมือที่บ่อนกาสิโนของเมืองมอนติคาร์โลจนหมดตัว โชคดีที่บริษัท เด แบงน์ เดอ แมร์ แห่งโมนาโกได้ช่วยชีวิตของโอเตอโรไว้ ด้วยการจ่ายเงินยังชีพเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ให้ จนกระทั่งโอเตอโรเสียชีวิตลงพร้อมกับการถูกลืมและในสภาพที่ยากลำบากเมื่อวันที่ 10 เมษายน ค.ศ. 1965 ด้วยวัย 97 ปี
บทละคร
ถึงเวลาแล้วที่คนงามโอเตอโรในสภาพหมดตัว ถูกห้ามเล่นการพนัน และยังชีพด้วยเงินเบี้ยเลี้ยงอันน้อยนิด ในที่พักเล็กเท่ารูหนูหลังหมดตัวที่บ่อนกาสิโนของเมืองมอนติคาร์โล ต้องเผชิญหน้ากับความจริง โอเตอโร ได้รับการต้อนรับจากรองผู้จัดการตัวเล็กคนหนึ่ง ซึ่งถูกมองข้ามและถูกบดบังไปในทันที เมื่ออยู่กับบอร์ดี้การ์ดผู้มีบุคลิกอันน่าทึ่ง และยากจะคาดเดา ระหว่างความฝันและความจริง โอเตอโร สร้างจินตนาการให้อดีตคนรักฟื้นคืนขึ้นมาร่ายรำอีกครั้งในกระจกเงาแห่งความทรงจำ โอเตอโร ตระหนักถึงสภาพความเป็นจริงได้แล้วจริงหรือ หรือกำลังเล่นเกมครั้งสุดท้าย เพียงเพื่อให้ตนเองรู้สึกสุขใจกับ การทำให้ผู้อื่นสูญเสีย การได้ยั่วยวนเป็นครั้งสุดท้ายเท่านั้นหรือ จบที่นี่หรือ ไม่มีทางโอเตอโรอยู่ที่นี่ เพียงชั่วคราวเท่านั้น…และด้วยวัย 97 ปี โอเตอโรก็ละทิ้งกระจกไปในที่สุด…

Alliance française Bangkok is pleased to invite you to enjoy the play “MY NAME IS OTERO”, written by Jean-Paul Daumas, performed by Troupe des Deux Mondes on September 25 and 26 at the Auditorium of the Alliance française Bangkok, 179 Thanon Witthayu.
Nothing is more romantic than the life of Carolina Otero. She started working in nightclubs at 14 years old in Barcelona, and then went to Paris where she soon became an idolized star of the stage. Frequenting the most exclusive circles and sharing the bed of bankers, princes and kings, she broke hearts and depleted fortunes. At 46 years old, at the height of her fame and having acquired enormous wealth, she retired from the stage and settled in Nice. A compulsive gambler, she lost all her money at the Casino de Monte Carlo. The Société des Bains de Mer de Monaco—the company managing the Monte Carlo casino—came to her rescue, granting her a modest allowance until her death on April 10, 1965, at 97 years old, forgotten and destitute.
The play
Ruined, barred from the casino and reduced to living on a minute allowance and in a minuscule apartment at the expense of the Monte Carlo casino management, the woman who had been known as “La Belle Otero,” or the beautiful Otero, faces up to reality, meeting a minor assistant manager who soon is overwhelmed and trampled by the capricious personality of his protégée. Hovering between dreams and reality, Otero evokes the lovers who had filled her life, summoning them from the depths of her memories. Is she fully aware? Or will she play the game for the last time, if only for the pleasure of losing, of a farewell seduction? Never: Otero is just passing by…And at 97 years old, Otero at last put down her mirror.
