นิทรรศการศิลปะ การเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานแบบไร้ถิ่นพำนัก การอาศัยอยู่แบบชั่วคราว และการไม่มีสถานภาพความเป็นอยู่ที่แน่นอนของแรงงานข้ามชาติในประเทศไทย จัดขึ้นเพื่อต้องการสะท้อนให้สังคมได้รับรู้ถึงผลกระทบของนโยบายรัฐประเทศต่างๆ ต่อประเด็นการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานผ่านงานศิลปะในรูปแบบที่แตกต่างกันไป การจัดงานนิทรรศการครั้งนี้ขอเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการเปิดโอกาสและพื้นที่การแสดงออกให้แก่แรงงานข้ามชาติ ที่ไม่มีสิทธิ ไม่มีเสียง และไม่มีโอกาสในสังคม
นิทรรศการภาพศิลปะครั้งนี้เป็นพื้นที่ที่เปิดโอกาสให้ศิลปินที่มีความคิดสร้างสรรค์ในภูมิภาคลุ่มแม่น้ำโขงได้สะท้อนความมีตัวตนและการดำรงอยู่เพื่อการทำงานหาเลี้ยงชีพผ่านผลงานศิลปะที่มีทั้งภาพถ่าย ภาพเขียน ภาพวาดลายเส้น วีดิโอ และการแสดงในรูปแบบต่าง ๆ ที่หลากหลาย อันได้แก่ Estelle Cohenny, Maryanne Coutts, Nik Dunlop, Liz Hilton, John Hulme, Sha jak, Padungsak Kochasamrong, Lui Lifen และสมชาย พินิจทรัพย์ งานนิทรรศการนี้จะจัดแสดงตั้งแต่ วันที่ 15-28 กุมภาพันธ์ ณ สถาบันปรีดี พนมยงค์ ซ.ทองหล่อ สุขุมวิท 55 กรุงเทพมหานคร
ส่วนพิธีเปิดงานนิทรรศการภาพศิลปะจะมีขึ้นในวันที่ 15 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 เวลา 18.00 น. บริเวณลานน้ำพุ สถาบันปรีดี พนมยงค์ ขอเรียนเชิญสื่อมวลชนที่สนใจมาร่วมงานได้ตามวัน เวลา และสถานที่ดังกล่าว

นิทรรศการและงานสัมมนานี้เป็นกิจกรรมที่จัดขึ้นภายใต้โครงการ เพศสภาพ แรงงานข้ามชาติ และความเป็นประชากรของประเทศ กรณีศึกษาบริเวณพรมแดนไทย-พม่า ซึ่งได้รับการสนับสนุนงบประมาณจาก IDRC แคนาดา
“ILLEGAL, TEMPORARY AND PRECARIOUS STATES OF BEING – MIGRATION”
ART EXHIBTION
February 15th – 28th 2010, Pridi Bhanomyong Institute,
Sukhumwit Soi 55 (BTS Thonglor), Bangkok, Thailand
JANUARY 25 2010 – The Pridi Bhanomyong Institute opens its new exhibition, Illegal, temporary and precarious states of Being- Migration on February 15th.
The exhibition will show from February 15th until February 28th 2010. “Illegal, temporary and precarious states of being- migration” highlights the contradictions in a world that relies on migrant labour but refuses to accept or appreciate the migrants who work. The last day of the exhibition coincides with the final date for migrants in Thailand to enter a process of regularization. Any migrants not doing so is threatened with arrest and deportation.
This exhibit combines the work of new and experienced artists and includes photographs, video, performance, and innovative installations.
* Liu Lifen uses her own experience of moving from the countryside to Kunming to create a performance video exploring how one carries one’s past wherever one goes in Carrying.
* Liz Hilton’s Reflecting on Today...imagining Tomorrow uses small toys to create a landscape highlighting opposing experiences of migration and gives the viewer a chance to re- create a better experience
* This is your room installation initiated by TWC2, Singapore, explores the space that migrant domestic workers live and work in.
* Thailurma Bound video of Estelle Cohenny explores the subject matter of borders as a person crosses back and forth, but never arrives anywhere. Her installation Everything reminds me to remember you#1 explores issues of inclusion and exclusion and statelessness.
* Omkoi District, Pa-an Village Video follows the Karen in their lives in the uplands and in the urban areas, sometimes in harmony, sometimes disjointed.
* The photographs of John Hulme and Nic Dunlop each explore in their own powerful manner the daily lives and journeys of Burmese migrants in Thailand.
* Tyred people utilizes the pond in the Institute to represent one of the unconventional modes of transport that the illegality imposed on migrants forces them to use, a theme further explored in the drawings of Somchai Pinitsup.
* Maryanne Couts’ Thirst video looks at the internal personal precarious states of being inbetween.
The exhibition is organized by MAP Foundation (Thailand), Studio Xang (Thailand),The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the University of Leeds (UK) supported by IDRC and Japan Foundation.
The exhibition will be open daily from 9am – 5pm from February 16th – 28th 2010.
